The body of a woman from Delhi has been found in Saattal lake, over 20 km from Nainital, on Wednesday, said police.

Police said prima facie it seemed to be a case of suicide but the exact cause of her death will be known after proper investigation and once the report of the post mortem examination is out.

Investigating officer DL Arya said local residents informed them about the body of the woman floating in the Saattal lake.

“When we fished out the body, we found an Aadhaar card and bus ticket from Delhi to Haldwani. Based on the Aadhaar card, she was identified as 29-year-old Uzma from Delhi’s Seelampur area,” Arya said.

The officer said with the help of the Delhi police they contacted the woman’s family and spoke to her brother. The family will be arriving later in the night and the body will be handed over to them, he added.

“Her brother told us that she had been been operated for fat removal a few days ago. Even before recovering from the surgery, she left the hospital and came to Nainital. Prima facie she was depressed and came here to commit suicide. Her brother said she had come here earlier also,” Arya said.
