THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala
University has made arrangements for publishing all the long-pending results by July, education minister
C Raveendranath told the assembly on Tuesday.
"MG University published its results, just 12 days after the conduct of examination. Situation regarding result announcement is improving substantially. I don't claim that delay in publishing results is the only problem associated with our universities. Research activities are certainly the backbone of universities. Still, timely announcement of results takes the comprehensive development of our higher education institutions a step closer," the minister said while replying to discussion on
Kerala University (amendment)
Bill.
The minister, however, refuted the allegations by opposition MLAs that the amendments on Kerala University and
Sri Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Acts were mooted with ulterior motives.
"The amendments, as alleged by the opposition members, are not undemocratic. In fact, the changes mooted would make the university forums more democratic than they were in the past. The Kerala University (temporary alternate arrangement of senate and syndicate) Bill has become inevitable following court intervention. The government had started the process for election to university senate. But, the same had to be put on hold following litigations. The temporary arrangement is purely technical and would be in force for maximum six months. By that time or even before that, the new senate and syndicate would be constituted," he said.
The minister said the government was taking steps to improve the quality of higher education institutions in a time-bound manner.
