Staying true to its mission of helping those who are in pursuit of higher education to specifically care for those in the field of social work, the Zachary Davis Memorial Foundation recently awarded a scholarship for 2018.

Darian Bobish, a senior from Canton South High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. This exemplary student is active in her community and volunteers in a variety of ways, including aiding the homeless and addicted. She plans to major in Social Work.

"I was immediately struck by her caring heart," explained Foundation President Anita Davis. "Those going into the field of social work are very special. She seems like a great leader and is willing to take action. I believe that she will be effective in helping to change the world."

The Zachary Davis Memorial Foundation was founded by Davis in the wake of losing her son, Zachary in 2005 as the result of a drug overdose. In addition to awarding scholarships, the foundation looks for ways to support community organizations that equip youth with skills needed to make good choices and educate them about the impact of drugs.

Davis speaks at schools all over Tuscarawas and surrounding counties. She shares the impact of drugs on the family and her as an individual left to grieve the loss of her oldest son and the stark reality of future family photos missing a loved face.
