A 21-year-old Ocala man was identified Tuesday as the passenger killed in a crash on Beach Street the day before. The driver of the other car in the crash apparently did not have a valid driver's license, according to records.
Malik Coleman died in the crash which occurred about 2 a.m., according to Daytona Beach Police spokeswoman Lyda Longa. He was a passenger in a Buick driven by Amber Fisher, 19, of Fanning Springs.
The Buick, traveling east on East International Speedway Boulevard, collided with a northbound Ford Escort. Police said the Escort may have been going 80 to 90 mph.
The Escort was driven by Antonio Hester, 34, of Daytona Beach, said police spokeswoman Lyda Longa.
Hester has some blemishes on his record.
Hester was cited on April 3 with operating a vehicle while his driver's license was suspended, canceled or revoked, according to online records.
Hester was also cited on Nov. 14 with driving while his license was suspended, canceled or revoked as well as being charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police car with its lights and sirens operating and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
Both cases are open.
Hester was driving the Escort north on Beach Street carrying a passenger, Richard Hatchet, 41, of Daytona Beach.
Longa said the crash, including the Ford's speed, remains under investigation.
