CHENNAI: After a six-month dry spell, Chennai received rain on Wednesday afternoon.
Nungambakkam, where the cloud cover brought the
temperature down by 10 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius, received nearly 3cm of rainfall.
On average, the city gets 5.5cm of rainfall in June. The convective showers were encouraged by strong westerly winds coming from the Arabian coast where the southwest monsoon is in full swing.
Weathermen have forecast the development of thunderclouds towards evening or night on Thursday when the maximum temperature is likely to be around 39 degrees Celsius. The temperature could plummet when rain clouds arrive, they said.
