Trains services between Kalyan and Kasara on the Central Line were disrupted for 30 minutes on Tuesday, due to an issue with the overhead equipment (OHE).

According to Central Railway officials, the incident occurred between Ambivali and Shahad stations at 1 p.m. “There are 33-kv electric wires running above our OHE, which belong to the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB). Some elements of the wires fell on the OHE, causing the disruption,” an official said.

Several commuters were forced to walk on the tracks. Services resumed at 1.30 p.m. Shailesh Raut, spokesperson, Kalyan-Kasara Railway Pravasi Sanghatana, said services took several hours to return to normal. “It is a good thing that such an incident occurred in the afternoon. The railway should ensure that the OHE are maintained properly.”

Officials said talks are on with MSEB about running wires underground where they cross the railway’s OHE. “There are 13 such locations on Central and Harbour Lines,” the official said.
