Climbers evacuated off Sunshine Coast mountain over fire risk
Climbers are being evacuated off a popular mountain in the Sunshine Coast hinterland over fears they could be trapped by fires.
Fire crews were called to Mount Beerwah after walkers spotted a fire on the mountain about 8.15am on Wednesday.
SES crews were called to help evacuate 12 people from the mountain, a QFES spokeswoman said.
She said there was no indication the walkers were trapped by the “isolated pockets of fire on the mountain”.
Fire crews were in contact with HQPlantations, an organisation that manages the mountain, to determine the best course of action, the QFES spokeswoman said.
Mount Beerwah is the highest of the Glass House Mountain peaks, according to the state Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing website.
