Police will soon station a unit of special operations task force (SOTF) in Rudrapur town of Udham Singh Nagar, days after arrest of two Maoists from the district, an official said on Wednesday. The SOTF unit will keep a watch on possible Maoist activities.

“The unit would be stationed in Rudrapur to keep an eye on the activities of at least four suspected Maoists, who were named by the two arrested Maoists. Police have identified them as associates of these two,” said additional director general of police (law & order) Ashok Kumar.

“The names revealed by them are not big that police can announce a reward on their heads. They are just trying to spread propaganda among the labourers and the farmers in the area. Police are at present in the mode of wait and watch,” Kumar said, adding police were gathering concrete evidences before arresting them.

Maoist cadres Ramesh Bhatt alias Manish master and Manoj Kumar Singh alias Arvind were arrested by teams from Sitarganj and Nanakmatta police stations from a mango orchard at Anandpur, Kichha on Sunday.

According to police, the two were working to spread the Maoist movement in the area by fanning labour unrest.
