Among TSE33 issues, oil and coal product, mining, and pulp and paper-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 86.19 points, or 0.38%, to close at 22,625.73. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.63 points, or 0.15%, to finish at 1,777.59.
