Coimbatore: Admission for undergraduate arts and science courses at the Government Arts College in the city began on Wednesday with counselling for special quota students. Students who come under sports quota, NCC quota, children of ex-servicemen and disabled students attended the counselling.
An official from the college said there are 42 seats under sports quota, one seat under NCC quota, six seats under ex-servicemen quota and 68 seats under disabled students’ quota. “We have received at least 200 applications for seats under sports quota. Under other quotas too, we have received applications almost five times the number of seats,” said a college official.

In the special quota counselling, BCom had the highest demand, he said. The college conducts a single window counselling for undergraduate arts and science courses. This year the college had received around 7,100 applications for 1,409 seats across the courses, said college officials. The general counselling would start on Thursday and go on till June 19.
