Verification process for prospective beneficiaries of Modicare has begun


Mumbai: According to a survey conducted by the BMC, around four lakh people from Mumbai will be eligible for cashless health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh under the ‘Ayushmaan Bharat Scheme’ or Modicare.

A senior health official said the scheme will be functional from August 2018, but the beneficiary have to undergo a verification process to avail benefits. BMC Executive Health Officer Dr Padmaja Keskar said the information of the beneficiaries under this project has been obtained from the data of the of the Social and Economic Caste Census (SECC) of 2011. “The action plan on this project will be decided after a meeting to be held soon,” she said.

The district administration, the health department and the BMC will be conducting a verification process which began on Monday and will continue until June 12.  Moreover, a door-to-door verification of those eligible for the scheme, which was announced in the Union Budget, will be conducted. “More than 495 Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers would continue the door-to-door survey, after which the data of the verified people will be entered into a portal. Once the verification is done, the details will be made available online and the beneficiary will get a unique card number,” said Sudhakar Shinde, Project Head of Modicare scheme.
