Kia Sedona Recalled Over Potentially Dangerous Power Sliding Doors

If you own a 2015-2018MY Kia Sedona equipped with power sliding doors, then you might want to pay attention to this one.

According to the NHTSA, the minivan’s sliding doors might not operate properly due to a software error and can cause injury.

“The recalled vehicles contain Power Sliding Doors with an automatic stop and reversal feature that is designed to reverse the movement of the door back to open when an obstruction is sensed”, explains the NHTSA. “Due to the Power Sliding Door Control Module’s programmed threshold level, the power sliding door may not reverse course in the presence of certain obstructions.”

Kia said that 106,428 Sedonas assembled between July 21, 2014 and December 6, 2017 are included in this recall. However, since the vehicles were not produced in VIN order, customers looking for more information about the recall need to contact the brand’s Consumer Assistance Center or their local Kia dealer.

The automaker is aware of several injuries associated with this condition. Until May 17, it had identified that 14 of 21 complaints reported an injury, and confirmed two of them.

Owners of the affected vehicles included in this safety campaign will be notified via mail on June 18, and advised to schedule an appointment with an official dealer to take care of the issue. The fix will see technicians reprogram the module software of the power sliding doors free of charge.
