PANAJI: Taleigao boy Aumkar K Shah’s all-India rank of 549 is the best-known from Goa so far at this year’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the results of which were declared late on Monday. Shah, a student of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School, Panaji, scored 624 out of 720.
Shah, the son of organisational development consultant Kishore Shah and Goa Medical College (GMC) professor Dr Hemangini Shah, said that he has also answered the entrance tests for the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. “I am awaiting the results of these tests, and then I will make my choice of institute.” Shah’s is the best rank at NEET 2018 to emerge from the state so far.

In 2015, Shah and his father had their names in the Limca Book of Records for being the first father-son duo to launch books together.

“Aumkar had also answered IIT JEE-main,” said director of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School, Vynkatesh Prabhudesai. “We have seen that if students prepare well in physics and mathematics to answer at the engineering level, they also tend to do better at medical school tests. At NEET, we have 19 students with scores of more than 400. Twenty-two students from our school have qualified for a seat at GMC.”

Some other ranks from Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School were that of Ravindra Kudchadkar (4499), Rayner Cordozo (5164) and Aaman Rebello (5199).

At Miramar's Dempo Higher Secondary School of Science (PACE), the highest score at NEET was 512 out of 720, of Tania Dias. Two students from the school scored above 500 at the test and five scored over 400, the institute officials said.
