Parties condemn arrest of Velmurugan, hold protest

‘Govt. trying to scare people by slapping false cases’

Various political parties such as the MDMK, the DMK, the VCK, the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, the TNCC, the CPI and the CPM came together to protest against the arrest of Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi leader T. Velmurugan before the Chennai Collecterate on Tuesday.

MDMK chief Vaiko led the protests which was attended by leaders of a number of parties.

The leaders also condemned the shooting of protesters in Thoothukudi and accused the State government of trying to scare the public by slapping false cases. Speaking to the reporters, Mr. Vaiko said already two lives had been lost [following Mr. Velmurugan’s arrest].

“Jagan Singh and Mansoor Ali have died already protesting against the arrest. I would like to tell the Chief Minister that people would throw away his government one day.”
