The 2018 Love Island contestants

Love Island launched this week, with the premiere giving ITV2 its biggest ever audience.

Around 2.95 million people tuned in to watch the 11 new contestants arrive at the villa on the Spanish island of Mallorca, making it the highest-rated programme in the Monday 9pm slot.

The “islanders” have to pair up and re-couple every few days throughout the eight-week series, with remaining singletons at risk of elimination.

Ultimately, it will be the couple who wins over the hearts of the public that picks up the £50,000 cash prize.

So who are the bookmakers’ favourites to win?

Jack Fincham, a 26-year-old stationery sales manager from Kent, currently has the best odds of winning out of the men, followed by Niall Aslam, a 23-year-old student and construction worker from Coventry. Adam Collard, a 22-year-old personal trainer from Newcastle, is in third place.

Among the ladies, Danny Dyer’s 21-year-old daughter Dani is in top place, followed by Kendall Rae-Knight, a 26-year-old retail manager from Blackpool. Hayley Hughes, a 21-year-old model from Liverpool, takes the third spot.

“For the girls the bubbly Dani has been hugely popular and she remains our 6/4 favourite ahead of Kendall at 2/1,” says Katie Baylis, a spokesperson for Betfair.

She predicts that Jack and Hayley will be this year’s “villains”, whose function it is to stir things up and cause controversy.

Samira Mighty, the 26-year-old West End performer from London, looks likely to be eliminated after she wasn’t picked in the initial coupling, while Wes Nelson, 20, a design engineer from Staffordshire, has the worst odds out of the men.
