A kitchen fire in a Gisborne home has resulted in two men being taken to hospital.

Two men are in hospital with serious injuries after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a Gisborne home.

Fire communications shift manager David Meikle said emergency services were notified of the blaze in the suburb of Inner Kaiti at 7.20pm, and firefighters arrived to find the fire already extinguished.

He was not able to say how much damage the fire had caused on the Wainui Rd property or how the men were injured.

A St John's spokesman said two men were taken from the property to Gisborne Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition, both having suffered burns.
