NEET showing

more-in

The poor show by candidates from Tamil Nadu in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) was not unexpected (“Rajasthan, A.P., Kerala record top performances in NEET”, June 5). The responsibility for this fiasco must fall on the shoulders of unimaginative politicians in the State who are for the abolition of merit-oriented examinations. Emotion must not stand in the way of academic progress.

A. Balagangadharan,

Pollachi, Tamil Nadu

The abysmal performance of candidates from Tamil Nadu is shocking, perhaps in large measure due to the below par standard of the State Board syllabus. Though the Tamil Nadu government is taking steps to improve the standard of education keeping the needs of competitive examinations in mind, much more needs to be done. The student community must not suffer.
