Authorities in Georgia are searching a wooded area near Atlanta in the hopes of solving the mystery behind the disappearance of a Flagler Beach woman who went missing nearly 22 years ago.
An ABC News affiliate in Atlanta is reporting that law enforcement is searching the area after an anonymous tipster told authorities that items possibly belonging to the missing woman were lying somewhere in the woods near where her car was last discovered.
Sherri Vanessa Holland was last seen the morning of Aug. 16, 1996 in Flagler Beach. Authorities said she and her two dogs were on her way to her second home in Atlanta.
Holland's BMW was found abandoned eight days later on the side of Interstate 75 in Morrow, Georgia, located about 15 miles south of Atlanta.
News reports at the time stated that a loaded gun and a purse containing more than $2,400 were found inside the car. Her dogs also were discovered miles away from the car, but Holland has never been found. Her wallet and suitcases also were missing, officials said.
The media also reported that Holland, who was 34 when she disappeared, ran an escort business.
ABC News is reporting that the latest tip is the first one investigators have received in 20 years.
Holland's home at 2226 S. Oceanshore Blvd. in Flagler Beach was considered her "getaway" home, authorities said.
