Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe has reiterated that he does not intend giving up running for president of the South African Football Association (SAFA).

Radebe intended to run for president this year but later withdrew after it was revealed that he did not qualify due to specific SAFA rules.

Since his retirement, the 49-year-old has not served within the associations structures and regional executive committees.  

Meanwhile, Danny Jordaan was re-elected after receiving 234 of 246 votes, two votes voted against and one spoilt vote. 

Former referee Ace Ncobo withdrew his candidature for top position, which meant Jordaan went into ballot box unopposed.

Radebe strongly believes that the association needs fresh ideas to move forward and wants former Bafana Bafana players to have roles within the SAFA structures in future.

"At moment I am dealing with the matter of trying to get affiliated to SAFA structures," said Radebe as quoted by SowetanLIVE website. 

"In the next few years, we must know how to get into that level (of being the president) but I am still trying to learn some things and get myself ready.

He continued: "We need to move forward. We need new ideas.

"The better solution for the future of our football is to rope in former players in SAFA structures.

"I don't see why I should give up on becoming the next president.

"Our age group, especially the 1996 team (who won the Africa Cup of Nations) must play a role in those structures."

The next SAFA elections will be in 2023.
