Rajkot: A head constable with the State Reserve Police (SRP) Group 13 stationed at Ghanteshwar in Rajkot was allegedly thrashed brutally by four persons who wanted to know the whereabouts of his son who had eloped with a girl from a different caste and got married in April.
Bhupat Sagathiya (55) suffered a fracture in one of his legs after he was beaten up by four persons after abducting him from near the SRP campus in Ghanteshwar on Monday afternoon in an SUV. One of the accused also put a revolver on Sagathiya’s temple and asked him the whereabouts of his son Vijay and his wife Payal, who is daughter of another SRP constable Raidhan Lavadiya, also stationed at Ghanteshwar.
Police said that Sagathiya, after being brutally thrashed, was thrown out of the SUV near Kagdadi village on Morbi Road. Sagathiya then called his family and was admitted to the Rajkot Civil Hospital with severe injuries including a fracture in the leg.
In his statement to police, Sagathiya named Payal’s brother, Sagar Lavadiya his aide Bharat and four others as accused in the entire episode of his abduction and thrashing. Based on his statement, police has booked Sagar, Bharat and four unidentified persons for rioting, abduction, assault, criminal conspiracy and under the Arms Act as well as the SC/ST Atrocity Act.
According to police, Sagathiya belongs to the Dalit community, while Payal, whom his son had married is from the Ahir community. Both Vijay and Payal, after getting married, sent copies of their marriage certificates to their parents. But they have not returned to Rajkot yet.
