Surat: A young civet was rescued from walled city area by volunteers of an NGO after it was found stuck behind a pipe.
A huge crowd from Hanuman street in Soni Faliya of Chowk area gathered under a building on noticing the civet hanging to a pipe. The mammal got trapped behind the pipe which was fixed on a building wall.

A caller contacted Prayas control room and informed about the civet being trapped where it was difficult to reach. After examining the spot the volunteers used a long stick to help the civet come out.

“It looks like the civet was trying to go through the gap when it got stuck. Our team rescued it and provided it a safe passage. The civet got scared due to huge crowd gathered at the spot and we had to manage the crowd first for a safe rescue,” said Darshan Desai of Prayas.

Volunteers from NGO working for animal rescue informed that a number of civet cats live in walled city area and many a times they were spotted by locals. The civets make nest in cavities or hole in buildings. Its paws have long fingers compared to cats and that helps it climb over pipes. It survives on leftover food in human habitats.
