Taapsee Pannu is back with a new, short film, Nitishashtra. Directed by Kapil Verma, the short film was released on Large Short Films’ YouTube channel late Monday. Taapsee fights stereotypes, traditions, family values and a lot more in the film.

Nitishashtra is the story of two siblings who have their own demons to fight - while the brother is dealing with his time inside jail, the sister can’t get over the time she was taking care of her mom, all alone. Roshni (Taapsee) is a self-defence trainer who wants to ensure every woman is self-dependent. She loves reading the Bhagvad Gita in her free time. Her brother is irresponsible, irreverent and aimless. But he might also be a rapist. Soon after she realises her brother’s reality, she takes an unexpected step.

Not possibly the best moral stand, but barring the ending, Nitishashtra makes for an engaging watch. It portrays struggles of a woman torn between family and justice. Of course there are often forced references to the mythological story of Arjun refusing to fight his own kin. Sharing the short film, Taapsee wrote on Twitter, “Here it is..... hope you all enjoy watching this effort to bring a unique story to you. My first short film... #Nitishastra @kapzverma @vickyarora86 @LargeShortFilms”

Taapsee is currently working on Diljit Dosanjh’s Soorma and awaits the release of Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan opposite Abhishek Bachchan.
