The people of Mysuru on Monday remembered visionary ruler Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on the occasion of his 134th birth anniversary which was celebrated across the city.
Described as a ‘Raja Rishi’ by Mahatma Gandhi, the late Maharaja of Mysuru was well-known for his progressive welfare programmes and was instrumental in developing Mysuru into a model city under his regime. His tenure was described as the ‘Golden Age’ in the history of Mysuru.
At the Mysuru Palace, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the scion of the Mysuru royal family, offered tributes to the bust of Nalwadi to mark the celebration.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Yogesh, on behalf of the Mysuru District Administration, offered tributes to the statue of Krishnaraja Wadiyar at K.R. Circle, which was specially decorated.
Speakers at the programme recalled the contributions of the ruler, his futuristic projects for the city’s development and encouragement of art and culture. A procession was taken out by members of the Ursu community.
