An abandoned well, huge in size and rich in water, at Thekkinkad Maidan, opposite to Jose Theatre, got a rebirth on World Environment Day, thanks to the novel way of observance of the day by Thrissur-based Vishraam Builders.

The company staff and volunteers cleaned the public well, which was filled with bottles and other garbage.

Vishraam Builders — the first Green certified builder of Thrissur — took up the challenge of cleaning the well as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, M.K. Sudarsan, president, Cochin Devaswom Board, threw light into a master plan under which the Devaswom Board planned to renovate and protect several wells and other water sources around the Vadakkunnathan temple.

Mr. Sreeranj, managing partner, Vishraam Builders, underlined the company’s commitment towards protection of water resources.

A protective grill was installed over the cleaned-up well to avoid further deposit or dumping of waste into the water source.
