A 17-year-old Orange City youth was identified as the driver killed Monday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle and hit two other cars, injuring four people, officials said.

Kevin Mojena died after the crash which occurred at about 1:08 p.m. at 2235 South Woodland Blvd., said DeLand spokesman Chris Graham.

Mojena was driving a white 1998 Honda coupe south when, "for unknown reasons the vehicle lost control and crossed the center median of the roadway," Graham said.  His car struck a blue Honda sport utility vehicle and red Toyota sport utility vehicle, both traveling north on Woodland Boulevard.

All three vehicles sustained heavy damage. Four were taken to area hospitals and one was treated and released at the scene.

Seventeen firefighters from 10 fire department units from DeLand and Volusia County worked the crash, which remains under investigation.
