COLOMBO (News 1^st) – Two names have been proposed for the post of Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The ruling party proposed MP Ananda Kumarasiri while the United Peoples Freedom Alliance proposed the name of MP Sudarshini Fenandopulle.

Thereby, the Speaker decided to hold a secret vote to select a Deputy Speaker.

The position of deputy speaker became vacant when SLFP MP Thilanga Sumathipala voted against the Prime Minister during the no-confidence motion and resigned from the government and the position of deputy speaker.
