NEW DELHI: Almost five years after the government cleared
quadri-cycles as a new category of vehicle allowed to run on Indian roads, the
transport ministry on Tuesday notified it.
Quadri-cycles are seen as safer than three-wheelers as they will have four wheels with fully enclosed structure with hard top and doors. These vehicles will only be allowed to ply as
commercial vehicles.
Quadri-cycles will have to go through a
mandatory crash test. The government approved quadri-cycles to run on both conventional and electric fuel. Sources said acquiring permits from local authorities to ply as commercial vehicles could be a challenge.
