Last week my wife and I were shocked to hear the news that we had lost a dear friend. John Corbishley was a man devoted to the sport of softball, especially in our city. He ran the Sunday morning and night league out of Cupolo Field for many years, was a dedicated player and MiB umpire out of the SCSL leagues playing at the Jack Hackett Field at Father Kelly park. He was always available to help out in any way he could. John’s smiling face and gentle manner were a big plus.

In John’s later years because of health issues his presence at the ball fields was absent, but his memory of his dedication can not be forgotten. The city, the softball leagues he was associated with, the Men in Black umpires association, and the many players he affected should take a moment of silence in the passing of a great man.

RIP John. Do a good job of umpiring those games in heaven.
