Goa Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar has been admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai after he suffered a stroke on Tuesday morning, a BJP spokesperson said.
The party will soon issue an official statement, said party official.
Mr. Madkaikar had been in the firing line over the last few weeks over massive power cuts across the State.
On Sunday, Congress leaders had protested vehemently, complaining that several areas in North Goa had suffered blackouts for nearly 22 hours, after the power department shut down electricity to relocate high tension transmission lines from near a real estate plot of a private builder, near here. Even BJP leaders protest long hours of power cuts.
The Opposition and civil society groups accused the Minister of favour to a builder while Mr. Madkaikar blamed his Department officials for the power problems faced by the people in and around capital city of Panaji for 22 hours on Sunday.
Ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar from US hospital had spoken to Mr. Madkaikar late on Monday, asking him to ensure that power failures should curtailed to less than one hour.
