Kirtland house fire leaves one dead

One person has died in an overnight house fire in Kirtland.

The Kirtland Fire Department responded to a reported fire call at 11:06 p.m. June 4 at 10232 Chillicothe Road. The caller indicated that there was at least one person inside the home.

The house fire was fully involved when crews arrived on scene, according to the department.

Crews mounted a defensive attack and extinguished the fire at 11:46 p.m.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and the West Lake County Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the fire. A cause has not yet been determined. The home is expected to be a total loss.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Departments assisting on scene were Mentor, Willoughby, Wickliffe, Chesterland, Willoughby Hills and Eastlake.
