With the onset of monsoon in Kerala and the North East, Jharkhand has been experiencing the pre-monsoon thunderstorms for the past week. There have not been many changes in the condition of the weather except for thunderstorms occurring almost every alternate day with weathermen predicting timely arrival of rain in the State.

“It is expected that monsoon will arrive in Jharkhand around June 12”, said the weather scientist with Birsa Agricultural University (BAU), Ranchi, Dr Abdul Wadood. He explained that since monsoon has already hit the coast of Kerala on May 29, it is expected that monsoon will hit the northern parts of India soon enough.

“Thunderstorms usually arise just before monsoon starts but eventually its frequency is short lived as the time passes”, said he. According to Dr. Abdul Wadood, in the next seven to eight days heavy rainfall will start in different parts of Jharkhand.

For the past few days, Jharkhand has been experiencing heavy thunderstorm almost every day. Cloudy weather has become a constant in different parts of the state. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) several districts across the state, including the state capital Ranchi, might be experiencing thunderstorms for the next five days.

As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Central and South India are surplus by 45 and 51 percent, respectively. Whereas, East Northeast and Northwest India are deficient by 36 percent and 22 percent, respectively. During the last 24 hours, the country witnessed 3 percent less rainfall. With this, the countrywide rainfall continues to stand at 4 percent, according to skymetweather.com.

North-east India along with isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have also been receiving heavy rainfall and pre-monsoon activities in Mumbai may increase, according to weather forecast. Light rain is expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

For the next seven to eight days, thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds and lightening are expected in Ranchi and other parts of Jharkhand and heavy rainfall is to be expected subsequent to that, according to Dr. Abdul Wadood.
