The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday said that it could not interfere in the NEET issue as the Supreme Court was already seized of it.
Hearing a public interest litigation petition filed against publication of NEET results, a division bench of Justices C. T. Selvam and A. M. Basheer Ahamed said that the Supreme Court had already refused to stay the declaration of NEET results and it could not interfere in the direction of the apex court.
However, after a submission that to challenge a response against the OMR grading one had to pay ₹1000 which would be hard for students from humble background was made, the court agreed to hear the issue on June 11.
T. K. Rangarajan, Rajya Sabha MP, had filed the petition in public interest before the Madurai Bench seeking an injunction against the declaration of NEET results. He also sought grant of additional marks to Tamil medium students since technical terms in the question paper were incorrectly translated.
He claimed that there were errors in as many as 49 questions. A comprehensive study of the question paper was made by a non-governmental organisation, Tech4All, which pointed out the errors in the paper. A total of 196 marks should be granted to the Tamil medium candidates, he said.
The incorrect translation created confusion in the minds of students, affecting their overall performance. He added that NEET was a disadvantage to Tamil Nadu students as the test was based on CBSE syllabus and not Samacheer Kalvi, the common syllabus followed in the State.
