Bishop Connolly's John Aguiar breaks two minutes in 800 meters

FITCHBURG — Amber Lattuca, a sophomore at Bishop Stang High School, posted the highest finish among Greater Fall River high school student-athletes at this past weekend’s All State Track and Field Championships at Fitchburg State University.

Lattuca ran a personal best 58.78 in taking eighth place in the 400 meters. This marked her second personal record in as many weeks as she had run a 59.07 at the Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 Championships.

Lattuca was one of six GFR athletes to compete at All State.

Durfee junior Cameron Rodgers, running in the second of four heats, finished 13th in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal record 56.79. He had run 57.62 at Eastern Massachusetts.

Bishop Connolly senior’s John Aguiar and Somerset Berkley Regional junior Kathryn Sullivan both placed 19th at All State. Aguiar achieved his longtime goal of breaking two minutes in the 800 meters with a personal record 1:59.60. Sullivan posted a 16.23 in the 100-meter hurdles.

Bishop Connolly senior Nathan-Craig Machado was 24th in the 100 meters (11.62) and Diman Regional junior Zachary Poitras was 26th in the javelin (127 feet, 9 inches).
