M62 REOPENS after HUGE crash: Traffic at a standstill as four HGVs crash – huge tailbacks

A MASSIVE incident involving four lorries and three cars is causing huge tailbacks on the M62 that are set to last for hours.

All traffic is currently being held on M62 Eastbound between J29 and J30 after an incident involving several vehicles took place at 2.15pm.

Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, with firefighters fighting against the wreckage of one of the vehicles involved to free a person that had remained trapped inside.

The closure of all lanes has led to delays lasting for hours, with thousands of vehicles initially trapped between the accident scene and the two busy junctions.

They were later released by opening one lane, closed again immediately afterwards to allow authorities to carry out investigations and recovery work.

West Yorkshire Police has urged people to avoid the area if possible due to the delays that are expected.

Highways officials predicted the M62 could be fully re-opened by 7.30pm.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "All emergency services are en route to the scene.

"Please seek an alternative route and allow extra time for your journey this afternoon."
