Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has said that State Government is planning to impose ban on use of plastics in the State soon. He was speaking at the launching function of Cherry Blossom Avenue at Luwangshangbam in Imphal East on the occasion of World Environment Day today.
He said, a notice to instruct the shopkeepers to replace plastics with alternative materials within three months will be issued by the Government soon. The Chief Minister said, the act is a part of State Government’s efforts towards imposing a complete ban on the use and sale of plastics in the State. He said, youth clubs and other voluntary organizations willing to take up waste management activities in their respective localities will be provided financial assistance by the Government.
He further said, some entrepreneurs have come forward with the idea of producing materials which can replace plastic items. He also said, campaign against pollution and environment protection will be successful only when people extend full co-operation to the Government. He also appealed the All Manipur DPC Completed Candidates of Police Constable (Male - 2013) to call off their ongoing shut-down agitation. He said, State Government is trying to declare the results of the police Constable recruitment examination held in 2013 as soon as possible.
