HYDERABAD: A newborn girl found abandoned under
Nacharam police station area on Monday with animal bites marks on her body, succumbed to her injuries at the state-run Niloufer hospital on Tuesday.
The baby was found at
Erkula Basti by police and sent to a nearby hospital. From there she was shifted to the Niloufer hospital for treatment but could not be saved.
Hospital authorities said that the baby was barely able to breathe when brought for treatment and the bite marks could either be of rats or dogs. According to Nacharam police, a complaint was received from one Md
Ahmed, an electrician. While he was heading to the
Noor Masjid at Nacharam along with
Bankolla Pridhvidhar Reddy, the duo spotted the baby girl lying near the Masjid. The baby was initially rushed to the Prasad hospital by the duo and then shifted to the Niloufer hospital as it was a medico legal case. The Nacharam police meanwhile registered a case under section 317 (abandonment of child) of Indian Penal Code for the offence. The body has later sent to the
Osmania General Hospital for postmortem.
Meanwhile, this happens to be the eighth such incident of an abandoned baby succumbing to injuries. The incidents continue despite a central government provision for housing abandoned children under the ‘Ooyala’ (cradle scheme) and a beeline for adoptions by childless couples who wait endlessly.
