Nagpur: Savi Gadegone did the city proud by breaking into the top 100 all India rankings with a score of 660 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results of which were declared on Monday afternoon. Out of the 12.69 lakh candidates from across the country, 7.14 lakh have qualified for admissions to MBBS/BDS.
Lahari Boddu and Anvay Pangaonkar, the other two NEET spots from the city, also managed to secure respectable All India Rank (AIR) of 208 and 264 respectively.

Anita Wankhede of Wankhede Classes from where topper Gadegone claimed to have studied said, “The paper was tough as compared to last year. The cut-off is likely to be lower since the results have gone down due to difficulty level of the paper. As per our analysis, physics was tougher than biology and chemistry.”

Tichkole, of Interactive Classes where second topper Boddu went for regular classes, said, “The results are relatively low as compared to last year, so we are expecting the cut-off to be low as well. The main reason is that physics questions were numerical based and lengthy.”

Narayan Sharma of Sharda Classes, where third topper Pangaonkar completed the test series, said, “The cut-off will be lower than that of last year. Subject-wise analysis shows that physics was lengthy, so the students who started with it found it difficult to manage their time.”

Sarang Upganlawar, director of ICAD where second topper Boddu did test series, said, “Overall students from Nagpur performed very well and results delivered today have proved it.”

Sameer Phale of Dr Phale Medical Entrance Institute said, “Scores could have gone higher but because of physics subject we saw an overall drop in scores.”

CBSE, which conducted the exam on behalf of Medical Council of India (MCI), has provided All India Rank to all candidates. Admitting authorities will draw merit list based on AIR for the seats of MBBS/BDS falling under their jurisdiction.

When candidates apply to an institution in their state, they will have to mention their category as per state’s list. State counselling authorities will accordingly make their own merit list.

For the 15% All India quota seats, the Directorate General of Health Services will conduct online counselling for deemed universities, central universities, seats of ESIC, AFMC, BHU and AMU. Candidates will have to apply for 15% all India quota seats as per the directives of DGHS and counselling will stop as soon as the seats are exhausted.

Students from Vidarbha have been performing quite well, said Arvind Mohan of Aakash Institute where Pangaonkar attended regular classes. “The results have been very positive and encouraging. There has been a good trend setting regarding the medical scenario the last two years when it comes to Nagpur and the entire Vidarbha belt,” he said.
