Priority admission for staffers’ wards in UG courses

Vadodara: Wards of all employees of M S University will be get priority in admissions to regular grant-in-aid programmes at the varsity.
Such students will be admitted in the supernumerary category, so the move will not affect the regular intake capacity of the courses.

Although there is already a provision for children of university staffers to apply for admission in the supernumerary category, a query on whether the provision applies only to wards of permanent employees or to those of temporary employees as well had come up during Monday’s syndicate meeting.

“We clarified that we do not discriminate between permanent and temporary employees. Wards of all university employees can apply for admission to regular grant-in-aid undergraduate courses,” said Professor Parimal Vyas, the vice-chancellor of MSU.

Vyas added that a committee will process such applications and admission will be granted in the supernumerary category, so students applying for regular seats are not at any disadvantage.

The scheme applies to courses such as Bachelors of Arts, Bachelors of Science, Bachelors of Commerce and other regular programmes at the undergraduate level.

The scheme, however, will not apply to courses offered by the faculty of management studies and the faculty of technology and engineering.

There was also a discussion about whether the scheme could be extended to self-financed courses at the varsity. University officials felt that doing so could lead to complexities and the idea was dropped.
