'Chaka Jam' stir remains peaceful in Cuttack

CUTTACK: Except a stray incident of violence, the Chaka Jam called by Congress passed off peacefully here. There was partial disruption of normal life as the Congress workers resorted to picketing from 6 am to 12 noon at different places.

Workers of city unit of Congress led by president Mohammad Moquim gathered at Madhupatna, Palamandap, Badambadi, Dolamundai, College Square, Station Bazar, Sikharpur, Jagatpur, Belleview square, Choudhury Bazar, Buxi Bazar, Dargha Bazar, Ranihat square and staged peaceful picketing and urged people to participate in the agitation.

While buses remained off the road, vehicular traffic on NH 16 was paralysed.While the business establishments at Malgodown, Chhatra Bazar, Pithapur, Krusak Bazar and Choudhury Bazar were running as usual, movement of two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws was not affected.

In the lone incident of violence, an ITI student was allegedly manhandled by Congress workers at Madhupatna. While the injured student has filed an FIR in Madhupatna police station, Cuttack Nagar Congress Committee president Mohammad Moquim refuted the allegation.
