Man killed as WhatsApp group argument turns fatal
CHANDIGARH: An argument between members of a WhatsApp group ended in murder of a 28-year-old member of the group by the administrator in Haryana’s Sonipat city.

The victim, identified as Luv Kumar, died on the spot and his cousin suffered head injuries in the attack by the accused administrator of the WhatsApp group. Luv ran a business of vehicle AC repairs.

The Sonipat police have booked Dinesh Kumar, alias Bunty, in a case of murder and attempt to murder, registered against him and his sons and relatives on the complaint filed by Luv Kumar’s cousin.

“Today we have completed the inquest proceedings. Police parties have been sent to different locations to arrest the accused,” said Civil Lines SHO Narinder Kumar, who is the investigating officer, said.

The accused and the victim belong to the goldsmith community. In a bid to bring the community together, Dinesh Kumar who runs a sanitary shop had created a WhatsApp group called Johri.

Luv Kumar and Dinesh had an argument over material posted by Dinesh. “Both of them were strangers to each other and just knew each other as members of the group. Following an argument, Luv Kumar called Dinesh and the two argued on telephone too. Later, Dinesh called Luv to his place,” said SHO Narinder Singh.

Accompanied by his brothers and cousins, Luv initially went to Dinesh’s shop where his son told them that his father was not there. Dinesh called up Luv Kumar and asked him to come to his house. When they met, Dinesh and his grpoup of followers attacked Luv Kumar and his team. Luv Kumar fell unconscious on ground being beaten up by lathis and attacked with brick and stones.

“Luv Kumar died on the spot and his cousin Monu and two others suffered injuries in the fight. The police rushed the injured to hospital and sent Luv Kumar’s body for autopsy,” said the SHO.

The accused have already been identified, the SHO said, adding that there would be no problem in arresting them.

The mobile phone of the deceased has been seized and sent for forensic examination to obtain the data, he further stated.
