GUWAHATI: The
Assam National Register of Citizens (
NRC) coordinator on Monday said the names of 50,000 foreigners and their family members would not figure in the final draft to be out on June 30.
This is in contrast to claims made by minority outfits that lakhs of people, including declared foreigners, family members and ‘doubtful’ voters, will be left out of the final NRC which is being updated to find out the number of illegal migrants from Bangladesh settled in
Assam after the cut-off date of March 24, 1971. “We usually desist from giving numbers on how many people will be included or will be left out of NRC before anything is finalised. But a misinformation has been created. This is why I am compelled to quote the figure,” NRC coordinator
Prateek Hajela said.
