NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old man died after falling off a flyover near APS Colony in south Delhi after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding car on Saturday. The impact of the collision was such that he was flung off the bike and landed on the road 30 feet below. He died on the way to a hospital.
The victim, Shiv Kandan, is a native of Chennai, DCP (southwest) Milind Dumbere said. He was working with a private firm in Mahipalpur. The car driver, Himanshu Arora (26), has been booked under IPC sections of dangerous driving and causing death due to negligence.

Around 2.30pm on Saturday, Kandan was on his way from his office to his rented accommodation in Kalkaji. As he approached APS Colony, a speeding Maruti Swift car hit his black Bajaj Discover bike from behind. As he was on the left side of the flyover, he was flung off the bike on the road below.

An eyewitness said that Kandan fell right in front of him. “He was conscious even after the fall. He gave me his mobile phone and requested me to call his family,” he added.

Even as the eyewitness was unlocking the phone, a family member called and was informed about the accident. After a call to the PCR, an ambulance arrived in approximately 10 minutes. Kandan was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Center where he was declared brought dead by doctors.

Another police team found the damaged motorcycle and the car on the flyover. Arora was arrested after being identified with the help of the car’s registration number. He is a resident of Krishna Nagar in east Delhi and is a pharmaceutical trader.

Investigating officers said Arora lost control of his car while trying to overtaking another vehicle. He didn’t see the motorcycle that was going at a slower pace and hit it from behind.

CCTV footage of the area is being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the crash. Cops have taken Arora’s blood sample to check if he was driving under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicant. The victim’s body was handed over to his family after autopsy.
