COVINGTON, Va. (AP) — A German company that makes roll covers for paper and packaging manufacturers plans to build a manufacturing operation in Virginia.

Gov. Ralph Northam announced Monday that SchaeferRolls plans to spend $12 million to build a plant in Covington. The projected is projected to create 31 new jobs.

SchaeferRolls will be the local supplier to WestRock Co., a paper and packaging manufacturer.

Northam said Virginia beat out South Carolina for the project.

The governor approved a $100,000 grant to the company. SchaeferRolls will also be eligible for several other state incentives.
