Chennai: ‘No plastic’ focus in Eco Code conclave

On the World Environment Day, The New Indian Express in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry will be holding a day-long conclave here on Tuesday.

CHENNAI: On the World Environment Day, The New Indian Express in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry will be holding a day-long conclave here on Tuesday.
The conclave titled ‘The Eco Code’ will feature renowned ecologists and activists who will come together to find solution to ecological issues.

Sticking to the UN theme — Beat Plastic Pollution — the conclave will concentrate on the detrimental effects of plastics and explore eco-friendly alternatives.

With the amount of plastic in the oceans expected to outweigh fish by 2050, corrective measures are necessary to ensure a thriving global marine ecosystems. Large patches of plastic already dot oceans. Such coagulations are even more detrimental to our country because of our global positioning and sea currents.
The event will feature a panel discussion on the disturbing trend of over-reliance on disposable plastic packaging. The New Indian Express will also be launching a recycling drive.
