Former Northern Iowa basketball player Tanner Lohaus tweeted Tuesday that he will play baseball at Mount Mercy.
Lohaus averaged 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in seven games last season for the Panthers. He has three years eligibility remaining.
Lohaus pitched and played shortstop as a prep at Iowa City West. He hit .276 as a senior in 2016 and had a 4.61 ERA in 44 innings pitched.
“I think (the) feeling (has) kind of always been there and I just have kind of been suppressing it,” Lohaus told The Gazette in April about his decision to switch sports. “Trying to get better and get through the season I just kind of felt like maybe it was just because I wasn’t playing as much but I think I finally realized it was just because I don’t really love basketball anymore.”
Lohaus’ brother, Wyatt Lohaus, will be a senior on the UNI basketball team in 2018-19.
Mount Mercy, an NAIA program, was 25-25-1 last season and 16-13-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
