AHMEDABAD: In an embarrassing incident for
Gujarat police, one of the force’s IPS officers, who is currently at a training programme at the
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, was recently roughed up by a few other IPS officers, for allegedly “misbehaving” with a woman
IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre.
Top police sources said news about the incident reached them after which they had a word with the IPS officer concerned, who was taken to task for his transgression.
“Nothing in writing has been submitted to us. But we have come to know that the matter has been resolved,” said a senior Gujarat police officer.
According to police sources, the Gujarat IPS officer at the training course had allegedly touched the woman IPS officer inappropriately.
“The
woman officer took offence and told a few of her batch mates who were in the same training programme. Her batch mates immediately confronted the Gujarat cadre officer and roughed him up. Other Gujarat cadre officers had a tough time tackling the issue. However, through the intervention of senior IPS officers from the state, the matter is now resolved,” said a police official.
Reliable police sources said that the woman officer had made up her mind to lodge a formal complaint and also write to the Gujarat home department about the Gujarat officer’s alleged misbehaviour.
However, the issue was ‘sorted out’ with the intervention of senior officers from the Gujarat.
