GUWAHATI: Meghalaya capital Shillong showed signs of recovery on Tuesday with no reports of violence since Monday night and local NGOs convinced that the state government would take steps to relocate the residents of Punjabi Lane from the heart of the city.

East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner P.S. Dkhar said curfew continued to remain in force in 14 affected localities while the timing for the rest of the city is for 13 hours from 4 pm to 5 am. “We are not taking any chances,” he said, adding a decision has not been taken yet on restoring internet and messaging services on mobile phones.
