French Open results: Latest scores as Nadal, Djokovic go for glory - men's updates

Rafael Nadal is the heavy favourite to win his 11th French Open title and he entered the competition as world No 1 having won the Italian Open.

A defeat would allow Roger Federer back to the top of the world rankings but Nadal has been handed a reasonable route to the final.

No 2 seed Alexander Zverev will be hoping to provide an upset and he is in the opposite half of the draw, along with Novak Djokovic, who is still searching for his top form following elbow surgery.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Nadal said: “Everybody knows that Madrid is the most different tournament of the clay-court season.

“At the same time it’s the most difficult one because the ball flies a lot, the altitude is a different story.

“Of course I lost, it was a match that I didn’t play very well. It was important for me to stay there mentally and be ready for Rome and that’s what I did.

“I played a good tournament in Rome, winning some important matches and at the same time going through situations that I didn’t go through during the whole clay-court season.”
