L&T sign contract worth $450m for Dhaka Metro

India’s Larsen & Toubro on Sunday signed a contract with the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited for Package 07 of MRT Line-6 of Dhaka Metro worth $450 million in Dhaka. The scope of work includes track works, electrification systems, signaling systems, automatic fare collection system etc.

The Dhaka Metro (MRT Line 6) is being constructed from Gulshan to Motijheel areas of Dhaka covering a distance of 18.9 km with 16 stations along the way. The project is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. 

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges of Bangladesh, Obaidul Quader. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Harsh Vardhan Shringla also attended the ceremony. 

Speaking at the event, Shringla said India has been actively engaged in the infrastructure sector of Bangladesh and with the signing of this contract an Indian company will have an opportunity to demonstrate its technological competence and will have an advantage of performing under similar conditions as in India. “India will be a willing partner further Mass Rapid transit line projects in both construction and consultancy,” he added.
