CM takes stock of RGUHS shifting issue

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy called for a meeting of officials of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to take note of the progress made in shifting the campus to Ramanagaram.

Officials of the RGUHS reportedly appraised the Chief Minister of the financial burden that the university will incur for shifting the campus. They also pointed out that a large chunk of land allotted by the State government to the university is under litigation.

Mr. Kumaraswamy had contested from Ramanagaram and Channapatna Assembly constituencies and chose to retain his Channapatna seat, while the Ramanagaram Assembly constituency will soon go in for byelections.

The RGUHS and the previous government had locked horns over the transfer of funds for the construction of the Ramanagaram campus. The university’s Syndicate and senate opposed the transfer by citing that a part of the land is under litigation. However, the government has been urging them to go ahead with it.

Governor Vajubhai R. Vala had written to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stating that all matters pertaining to this should be carried out after obtaining the necessary order or a clarification from the High Court, which is hearing the matter.
